The second of three planned network outages is this Friday morning from 4 - 5:00 a.m. During this outage, internet access will not be available anywhere

The Petya Ransomware global cyber attack started last night and has affected computers in over 65 countries. ITS has evaluated the risk to university computers and we believe the risk is low. ITS pushes out mandatory Microsoft system updates to these computers every month. The updates include updated security protections–this means the majority of university computers are not at risk.

Several improvements are being made to the University’s computing network which will enhance performance, reliability and security for everyone. The improvements will take place during three scheduled outages in June & July. They will occur during non-business hours on various Fridays to minimize any inconvenience. ITS is pushing an update to Windows computers next week. This is happening because the University’s Active Directory, the database which manages user accounts and groups, is being reorganized.

Action Required:

On your Division’s assigned date (see below), when you leave work close all of your open applications and logout...but leave your computer ON. Your computer is going to reboot at 10 p.m. which is why it’s important to close and save your work.

On May 3, a worldwide phishing incident happened where people were invited to click a “shared” Google Drive document. Once people clicked the link, they were then asked to allow access to their account so they could access the Google Doc. It was a “bait & switch,” so to speak.
