POP stands for Post Office Protocol and is a simple set of instructions that lets your computer retrieve messages from a mail server, NinerMail for Students and Exhange for Faculty Staff. After authenticating the request with the user's password, the POP protocol asks the server if there is any new mail, and if your mailbox on the server has messages, then POP usually downloads them to your computer and deletes them off the server.

This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of upgrades, maintenance, and scheduled outages. Outages are posted in ITS System Status.
