Service Description: Authentication is any process by which a system or application verifies the identity of a user who wishes to access it. Since it is normally based on the identity of the user who requests access to a resource, authentication is essential for effective information security. Authentication at UNC Charlotte is based on one's NinerNET credential, which is composed of a Username and Password.

Availability: This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of upgrades, maintenance, and scheduled outages. Outages are posted in ITS Alerts.
